  • why are the vocal cords white

  • @CinemaMinecraft500 The vocal folds are tissue, like skin. The normal appearance of healthy vocal folds is a white/pearly white appearance. If they looked red, for example, it would mean the vocal folds were infected, like in laryngitis.

  • I'm so scared to make any high pitched noises now... it looked like the vocal folds were gonna explode

  • @Username083192 The vocal folds are amazingly resilient and durable. Theya are amazing structures, but when used properly, there is little risk of damage.

  • So when one swallows food and liquids, does it pass through the vocal chords or do they go down a totally separate path??

  • @Aldenif The vocal folds close and the esophagus opens to allow food to go to the stomach. If thsi did not happen, the food would go right into the lungs
