Dr. Arnold Fancks erster Spielfilm zeigt die Schönheiten und die Gefahren der Dolomiten unverfälscht und ohne Filmtricks: was in diesem Film lebensgefährlich aussieht und noch heute den Atem stocken läßt, war damals ein echtes Wagnis - für die Darsteller ebenso wie für die Kameraleute.

Der Film wurde von Florian C. Reithner im Auftrag des Ensemble Filmharmonie vertont - mit einer ausgefallenen Orchesterbesetzung und raffinierten Toneffekten.

A true sensation in 1924: after two decades of mountains in film being little more than painted backdrops, rock climbing film pioneer Arnold Fanck took his audience to the real rock faces of the Dolomites.
The story is about the joys and the dangers of mountain climbing, of an alpinist who falls to his death while trying to conquer a dangerous peak, and of his son who finally succeeds where his father failed. The story is told in gorgeously photographed landscapes of cliffs and mountains. This film will leave you on the edge of your seat, since the climbing manoeuvres not look only dangereous, they really are! - the film is all the more impressive today, and with Florian Reithner's inventive score, a gripping experience.
