Quite a rare material.

Helen Keller, the American author, political activist and lecturer, whom I don't have to explain much about, and her instructor and lifelong companion, Anne Sullivan, appears in a Vitaphone newsreel from 1930. In this footage Sullivan shows the way how Helen Keller learned to talk. The final line of this footage, "I Am Not DUMB now!" is somewhat touching.

I know this footage have been shown on lots of more recent materials, but I was little bit surprised that nobody uploaded this before on YT except some clips, so I upload the full-length version.

  • They were two geniuses working together. A true miracle how hard Anne Sullivan worked with Helen who was a remarkable woman. They taught us to value everyone however different they appear.

  • Hahaha the "troll" commenting... fail troll is failing XD i think its the caps lock thats making me lol at it.

Anywhooo, whenever i think "i cant do it" i think about people like Helen Keller whom accomplished great things in their lives and they had far worse problems than I. I hope i can achieve great things in my life like her some day!

  • that's amazing

  • @FreakyScaryChannel what are you implying? this is an amazing discovery and technique that taught a women how to speak. for the fact that you can undermine 2 heroins like Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan sickens me and makes me question the world sometimes.

  • What a Bullshit hoax... How can people be so gullible...

  • Helen Keller was also a staunch socialist, so when someone starts yammering about how scary and bad socialism is, think about those terrifying human rights advocates like Keller.

  • Re: blinking: she had glass eyes to replace her real ones, which were growing cloudy and floated/were "lazy." She, Annie and her mother were all very conscious of her appearance as an advocate, and, at that time, thought that not only would the deterioration of her real eyes cause problems, but that aesthetically they would be unappealing and undermine her impact if she looked too odd by sighted standards. (This is why many blind children, including Laura Bridgeman were blindfolded in public.)

  • @calcrules Well, and you have to remember that blinking is a natural reflex for all people, even the blind. We blink so many times during the day without even thinking about it--so did she.

  • It is so hard to believe that she can speak under those conditions. Amazing

  • This is gold! Thanks for posting this!

  • @MattL883

I'm pretty sure the "retard" you're referring knows and has done a lot more than you can ever do. For one she likely spelled way better than how you apparently seem to type even if it were to be in sign language for her, which explains how your IQ level seems low and you're taking it out by having other people reading your pointless trolling BS. I think that explains enough.

  • @REMIX8604 people thought she was just a retarded vegetable. But she was actually a genius similar to Stephen Hawking
