  • @mutantsong i wasnt trying to argue. just putting some facts out there.

  • @mutantsong Club spinning actually originated in India, and a lot of the basic club moves (reels, weaves, fountains among them) were traditional exercises. The clubs were adopted for use as juggling props by Europeans (via the British) in the 1800s. But I don't really want to argue. My main point was that all these forms of manipulation influence each other, and different moves come from different places and traditions.

  • @kindtothebudd Yes some club moves come from poi. And some poi moves come from clubs.

  • @kindtothebudd No, I'm saying that weaves and fountains are not part of traditional Maori poi. The traditional way the Maori did poi looks very different from what modern spinners do. You are right the poi themselves go hundreds of years but they weren't spun the same way. Part of the "european influence" you speak of is club spinning. Just as poi developed into many other forms of object manipulation, other forms of object manipulation have influenced poi. Club spinning is one of them.

  • @kindtothebudd so if anything.. some club moves came FROM poi. wiki wiki

  • @mutantsong so you're saying that before the year 1350 when maori ancestors (where poi and the word itself originated from) arrived in new zealand that there where club spinners out there doing fountains weaves and waistwraps? i find that hard to believe lol. waistwraps and fountains.. those came along when poi was introduced to the world with its european influence. poi has developed into many other forms of object maipulation.

  • @barnzee1 A lot of poi moves were club swinging moves first. The weave, the fountain and waist-wraps were all club moves that poi spinners adopted way back.

  • @kindtothebudd Hey buddy. Posted a new tutuorial so if you have gotten more clubs or can grab a couple proper-length forest wood sticks, keep practicing! Super dope!
