This clip is of Sticking Hands(Chi Sau) done with a knife. It was taken during a 3hour knife defense seminar. It is not a direct application but a practice method designed to build particular skills.

Our style is Kuntao and pentjak silat which includes Tai Chi push hands, Sticking Hands and other influences from the Chinese arts.

KunTao is the Indonesian word for the explosive and punishing Chinese arts that immigrated to Indonesia many decades ago. It includes the Shaolin arts of Fukien, Honan, Kwantung, Shantung, and Hokkien -- & The 3 Taoist internal arts
Tai Chi Chaun (Tai Keah), Ie Hsing-I (I Shing Po), and PaQua Chang (Po Kwa Zen)

Pentjak Silat is the amazing fighting art of Indonesia & is expressed in KunTao Silat by the influence of the arts, Kilap Kilat, Serak, Tjimande, Tji-Kalong, Setia Hati, Kendang Silat, Chi-Petjut, and others with an emphasis on multiple attackers armed with bladed weapons. From ClearSilat.com

I'll post some more clips when I get the chance that will show other aspects of the knife work we do.

  • interesting this is different....i'v been told by other silat teachers to not stick to much when doing knife because i was taught it was a totally different game to empty hand. I can see the value of sticking though because I'm a tai chi guy myself but I can see why it would be bad to stick to long when dealing with an opponents knife. Kuntaosilat can you tell me what this practice method builds as far as attributes and what the goal is?

  • very cool

  • Silat Knife defense? Looks more more like Tai Chi push hands with a knife.
