As the hippies say, add to the love, it makes the roads a nicer place to be on for one.

  • OT, nice to see a bit of sense with the bike lane. Edinburgh has something similar but the longest is only circa 50m, your one looks to be a full road.

  • @HLaB75 That lane is a cycle-right turn lane designed for accessing the restricted part of Wilton road. Its not very long but is very handy. We do have issues now and again with a minority of drivers that drive into it from the other way.

  • Thank yous are lovely! I seem to manage roughly 100 thank yous to every castigation, and I really love it when a bit of pinch point negotiation and signalling results in drivers thanking me for making it easy to pass.

  • @CyclingMikey I never used to get thanked myself, but I'm guessing that my recent recognisable clobber is meaning I'm being recognised as a patient and polite rider as I'm being thanked all the time now when I let others through. When I thank drivers I see them wave back and smile.

  • Now you mention it, I probably give 20x more thumbs-ups, nods, and cheery waves, than I do "Mr Angry" signals.

  • @downfader2 Yeah maybe! I couldn't be more recogniseable, though there are other recumbents around my area.

  • I got a thanks from a cyclist the other week because i held back from him in road works and this stopped everyother car trying to squeeze past. The main reason i held back..... he didnt jump red lights, he didnt go on and off pavements and he didnt have an atitude. If more cyclists where like this then they would get more respect i think.

  • I always thank good drivers, I must have thanked about 8 in the last year!

  • The Iceland HGV drivers near me are very considerate and I think it is due to a few of

    them actually cycling to work.

  • Totally with you with the thank yous. I like to say thanks anyway, but I think it's important to acknowledge these things as people who see it might be more inclined to do it to other cyclists. Reminds me of how horse riders are always very thankful when overtaken correctly.
