Americans want something for nothing, and Obama and the rest of the politicians know it. In general we want more and more services from the government, while at the same time we want lower taxes, or we want someone else to pay the taxes. So the politicians give us what we want, they give us bigger government, and lower taxes. And the way they make up the deficit is by borrowing the money. They have discovered a way of having their cake, and eating it too.

Our fiscal problems in this country will not be solved until the politicians fear that they will lose votes by continuing to support this deficit spending. So if you want this madness stopped (deficit spending), you will have to write your representatives over and over again and tell them that you do not want any pork or spending projects at all for your district; all that you want is less spending. If they hear this from enough people, then they will see it as a threat to their political future, and then, and only then, will they finally stop the spending.

Americans want it all, and hang the consequences
The severely limited impulse to conserve is not only about economics. It is also deeply cultural. The United States is a place where the prevailing instinct is to want it all, no matter the consequences. Sure, there may be wars in the Middle East, Islamic militants on the march, smog in the air, pollutants in the water, hurricanes, floods and other tangible side-effects of global warming but that's not going to stop most people from hankering after a big car and a big house with state-of-the-art gadgets.
Cutting back is not cool or sexy. Given the choice between laboriously reviving old city centers with apartment renovations and corner shops, or ripping up cornfields to create suburban developments with huge houses and monster shopping malls, most Americans opt for the monster.
People certainly have mixed feelings. At the height of the Iraq war, it was not uncommon to see huge, gas-guzzling four-wheel-drives sporting "No Blood for Oil" stickers. Americans aren't happy about their obesity epidemic or their tendency to overspend in grocery stores or over-order in restaurants, even while they consume 200bn calories a day more than they need and throw away around 200,000 tons of edible food each day.
But will anything ever change? Telling Americans to consume less doesn't work. Giving them environmentally smarter versions of the same things - more fuel-efficient cars, better insulated houses, less heavily packaged food - may be a more promising avenue. Until the government, however, gets serious about forcing manufacturers to produce these things, the age of the more rational American consumer will remain a distant prospect.

I am not a green freak, not even close (there is no such thing as man made global warming), but lately since the news that we may be entering another great depression, I have been considering how my grandparents and great-grandparents lived. One thing that my Grandpa did was that he shaved with a strait razor. If you think about it, shaving with a straight razor has very limited impact on the environment, and on your wallet. I mean there is virtually no waste, because you keep on using the same razor for decades, if not for your entire life. Now consider disposable razors, they produce considerable waste; the plastic handles, the steal, the packaging, the fuel used to transport the material etc.

My point here is how thrifty and none wasteful our recent ancestors were. I realize that it was mainly out of necessity, but that too is my point, the fact that we may be entering into another Great depression will mean that we too, out of necessity, will have to become thrifty. We will have to get every ounce of use out of all of our products, we will have no choice.

So start looking around you and find ways that you can use things more efficiently, or ways that you can get just one more use out of something. Our throwaway society is coming to an end, so you had better get used to it.

Alright, lets think about this in terms of candy bars. That would be like america owing 2,833,333,333 candy bars. I would assume that you're part of the percentage of idiots. I am a conservative, and I supported and voted for Obama in the elections, but I though he would do a better job than this.
