DREAM THEATER
When Dream and Day Unite (1989)

7 - THE ONES WHO HELP TO SET THE SUN
[music by Dream Theater, lyrics by Petrucci]

Watching my window I was led like a
child
As the roadway lamplights
misguided my mind through the night
a shadow of limits
We were racing the rain
my hands held the wheel
My eyes tried to hold their place

there must have been a time
when I thought that you were
watching
It had to be when my senses lost
control
I thought I'd slipped away
I thought I could still feel us
moving
It must have been a cloud
no bigger than a man's hand

Every reason I risk my life
To come back to you
Is locked behind your door
You're my immunity
Outside I watched you burn
Heavy hearts were bleeding
A cry for help, a familiar voice
My melting hands streaked the glass

As I walked away
I wondered what had really
happened
had I run out of time
did I push myself too far
As my last step fell
I felt my hands upon the wheel
had I come back to life
or did I ever leave at all

In higher lives
We seem to be
always a moment too late
We're past the time
when we looked on
Now we're
THE ONES WHO HELP TO
SET THE SUN
this time for real
I locked the door behind me
My mind was still a wreck
from what I saw
For when my hands are still
I'll recognize the message
never again will my senses lose
control
In higher lives
We seem to be
Always a moment too late
We're past the time
when we looked on
Now we're
THE ONES WHO HELP TO
SET THE SUN

  • bought this on tape in 89

  • Actually, based on the tempo and key of the song, I think Charlie (a classially trained singer) does a fantastic job in this song. However, my opinion and yours are just what they are: opinions.

I love this song, and the overall mood sits among Dream Theater's best in my heart.

  • The intro pretty much = Rush - No One At The Bridge (from the Fountain of Lamneth)

  • @Drum4evr22 Hmph, i guess i love boredom....

  • 1.15 - 2.45 Is the sound you hear when you watch a slideshow of how the universe was created.

  • @aravna I honestly prefer LaBrie. Dominici is a fantastic singer, but I don't feel like he was as good of a fit with the band. On top of this, his particular tone made them sound a bit like a Queensryche cover band.

  • Been looking for this one for a long time. First Album I bought, and followed them ever since.

  • i love Dominici.... i really only like labrie when he was younger, but easily one of my favorite bands.

  • Gonna be a long time before this band is this good again...if ever.

  • It took me forever to realize the intro solo on this is Petrucci going crazy with delay and the whammy bar and not keyboards.

Testy? No, i am just tired of clicking on a video and seeing the same comments over and over again, the ones refering to the number of dislikes that are on a video and they think that they are being clever, it gets agitating

  • @ShiftyStealthy Testy, aren't you?
