  • I really like this philosophy of aikido, as a "flood", or free flow, of ki. I'm kind of trying to see how aikido matches up against other styles right now, and I find it's really hard to keep the principles of aikido sharp as I do these comparisons. It's nice to see strong aikido fundamentals again. I have subscribed to this channel.

  • @wildstar200 Thanks for subscribing! It would be difficult to embody these principles in a comparison of styles because your consciousness would be focused on differences rather than on unification. This is especially true when attempting to test the viability of aikido against fighting arts because the mind goes toward winning rather than unifying. It is impossible to harmonize if one is thinking competitively. Those states of mind are not compatible, hence Osensei's edict about not competing.

  • In our practice we find that our ability to allow this flood of ki is directly inhibited by trying to prove it works. The seeming paradox of a martial art in which one cannot think about winning in order to overcome a deadly attack is at the heart of this principle. The zen practice of "no mind" or mushin is the essence of this in a practical sense.

Thanks for your observation and for giving me a chance to reflect upon it. Keep up the diligent pursuit of your highest good!

  • I love the way you're working, and the insight drawn out from your students. Glad to have come across your postings. All best wishes, Cary Outis

  • Thank you very much for the compliments! I appreciate them especially after reading about you on your Tai Chi Cambridge website! Undoubtedly, you are an incredible teacher, based on what I read of your philosophy. Thanks again for making contact.

  • I really like this mans philosophy. So the real power of aikido is found through the truth of the underpinning philosophy of non-aggression.

  • Wonderful views and explorations again! For good analogy of connection/interconnectivity/interactive connection, check if you like Tensegrity structures.

  • This is a great teacher. His words are full of wisdom.

Thank you for this. And please, more true Aikido teachings!

  • @Kakushitoride Thank you for replying. I see your point of view on not competing. Aikido *is* about harmonizing. I want to thank you for putting these videos on YouTube; I find your "brand"/"style" of aikido fascinating and think it is just what the founder wanted.

  • Great job of explaining without pontificating or lecturing. PERFECT amount of info. I really hope I can find an instructor with your approach to explanations here in nyc..

  • Very interesting. If I ever make it down to the LA area I will come for a visit.
