Houston Rockets sign Scottie Pippen after the 1998 NBA Lockout ends. What seems like a dream frontcourt turns out to be a nightmare, winding up in an early round playoff exit and the controversial departure of Pippen in the off-season.

  • ... Jayson Williams certainly pegged this one.

  • @edscottable Olajuwon, Drexler, and Pippen combined to win nine championships and play in twelve NBA Finals—but never with Charles Barkley.

Remember, the previous season in Houston ('97-'98), Barkley publicly squabbled with Olajuwon, Drexler, and Mario Elie about the offense. Olajuwon, Drexler, and Elie had won a championship together in Houston, but Barkley wanted the ball instead and then wouldn't play the defense on the other end.

  • @edscottable The point is that Barkley was not willing to make the commitment necessary to win a championship—not then and not throughout his career. He wouldn’t commit to conditioning or defense, he played a ball-stopping, self-absorbed style of offense, and he constantly kept late hours. Why do you think that he never won a championship in Phoenix, where he played with superior talent?

  • what was scottie's opinion of hakeem? hakeem is too classy for anyone to slander him, but pippen was quite arrogant and felt entitled to championships and seems that he would fire off blaming all those he felt at fault if it didn't happen.
