  • I wish the question was are you for/against capital punishment? Then are for/against abortion? that should weed out the hyporcrites.

  • What difference do you see between death penalty and capital punishment as names for state organized killing of convicted murderers? Capital punishment is legalese isn't it?

  • Objectively the death penalty seems like a barbaric and hypocritical act. Most-anti death penalty opinions are held together with the simple viewpoint that killing is morally wrong.

But faced with a brutal murder carried out consciously, the death penalty is an appropriate action.

Under certain circumstances there is very little justifiable debate that anything other than death is necessary.

Whilst we are all victims of the personal circumstances we are born into, we alone control our actions.

  • The truth is that most reasonable people support the death penalty for those who admit murder or agsinst whom the evidence is irrefutable (dna, reputable witnesses). The problem remains that innocent people do get convicted of capital crimes. See the recent book by John Grisham or research death row history for the last twenty years. It's illuminating.

  • I would say that im against the Death Penelty but dont make their prision time as nice as it is now. Give them hard labor, etc...

  • There are some who believe that a firing squad is too personal. Those who pull the trigger might end up feeling guilty but i agree the firing squad is definately cheaper, i really don't like all those elaborate ways the US executes death row inmates.

  • What is the Flag doing in this video? The flag stands for freedom and the sacrifice of those men and women who have given their life to defend freedom. The rest of the video is worthless and is comparable to an elementary school survey.

  • blood thirsty fucks.

  • cutelovelylisa- I think the reason the anti-DP movement doesn't get as much support as it could do, is because its hardcore elements promote an anti-punishment image. They talk about how awful the DP is and exagerrate the number of cases of innocents (and yes, a few do exist) I oppose the DP but im no bleeding heart. PROVEN offenders in the most serious crimes should face severe punishments. In Europe we are far too soft and violent crime is rising here.

  • navymmw- My views are very similiar. There are two dangers here; I get the impression many of those advocating the DP don't really take it as seriously as it should be taken. And on the other side, some of those opposing it seem to lack suggesting alternative punishments. They have a mindset that is far too soft on scum.

  • macnos- Thankyou; yes that makes sense. However if it was an old-fashioned style shooting squad- one gun would have no bullet- that way every individual in the shooting squad would have the knowledge that maybe they didn't shoot a live bullet. Im not saying I support the DP. I don't, but if it has to exist this would be a better method. I agree with you on the US. Even tribal Afghanistan doesn't have as many methods, although the methods they do have are barbaric.

  • do you know what goes on in high security prisons? if the other inmates don't try to kill you, you have a wonderful little cell all to yourself 23 hours a day. try that for a month. dead is just dead, any suffering has to come beforehand (and we actively try to avoid that)

and what of all the innocent people who get convicted, what of their justice? there have been over 200 cases where people on death row were exonerated.

  • I'm for the death penalty. The fact of the matter is, if someone goes out and murders 3 people without the use of the death penalty he is sentenced to sit in jail for the rest of his life. Is this justice? Sitting in an air conditioned cell getting 3 square meals a day for the rest of his life? How is this fair to the 3 people he killed, or the 3 families he ripped apart? It's absolutely ridiculous that people can actually sit around and think that it's fair.
