@Highlander01 I say take the Turkish "soldiers" out of the area and just leave it abandoned. Sadly, at this point, nothing can be done to save the buildings; 15 years is about the limit of salvageability, and that passed in 1989.

Noticed this excellent video 5 years ago, and I bought this tune, Miserlou which is one of my most played in i-tunes. Thanks for posting.

I am not "cypriot" but I find this fascinating. You read two sides to this. Two VERY different accounts of the history of the crisis and why the end result is thus. All I see is finger pointing and not much responsibility taking. The simple question I have is: Who is telling the truth?

@pappych Truth is, Turkey only planned on getting Keryneia and Morphou and stay there, they were lucky enough to find no resistance so they moved into Famagusta's grounds, the Turkish army bombed the city several times but they didn't attack it, instead of protecting their town they fled like little wimply pussies that they are, and that's that.

@yalinaksay That's bullshit.

@brs320 To be honest, if Varosha was ever reopened, then the only solution would be to demolish the buildings. The buildings in Varosha/Marash will be nothing but deathtraps now, and are probably not worth maintaining.

Just one more reason why Turkey should NEVER enter the EU!

1 thing is good. If we watch those abandoned cities like Varosha and Prypiat, we can see how beautyful and normal cities were in the 70s and 80s when time was a bit more normal and when there was a bit of moral.

My parents use to vacation in Varosha. I saw family pictures of it and it was beautiful.
It's a waste, what happened to it. Even if it was reopened it would cost a butt load of money to make the buildings safe again. There are also probably cockroaches, rats, etc. in the buildings so they aren't safe/healthy to stay in. It will ever be like it was in it's prime.
Also, how did you take a 'secret drive' into Varosha? I thought that military paroles the are around te clock.
sicmic23, this city was bombed and turkey were about to invade the city, the people fled in fear and turkey than occupied looted etc this beautiful city....they still occupy it...this is not turkish territory at all...they kept city to use as bargaining chip.
