@toranacar The biggest problem with I.D. threading is boring bar deflection. If you keep advancing the cut when you have a lot of deflection it will eventually dig. Use as large of a boring bar as possible and take a second or third cut at the same dimension if the cutter is still producing chips at that dimension due to deflection

Im just an amateur on this stuff, basically I can turn down some rod etc but I cant make threads, when ever I try to cut a thread I cross cut the thread on the second and third pass and basically make a mess. Any tips on what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks

The simplest way is to leave the lead screw engaged & reverse the lathe.
Loads of info on the net

@doubleboost
THIS IS TRUE ONLY IF YOU HAVE A GEARED HEAD LATHE. IF IT IS BELT DRIVEN, THERE IS TOO MUCH PLAY AND THREAD LEAD WILL NOT PICK UP EXACTLY AND YOU WILL CROSS THREAD WHEN YOU CHANBE DIRECTIONS.

@alpho52
You still have to back the tool off or it will spoil the thread you never have a belt drive between the spindle and lead screw lol
