CHiPs - Explosion blows the chips off their bikes

Oh the poor CHP officers they were working so hard to keep this bomb from exploding. I'm glad they survived it.

Okay from the physics I agree with you guys, the bikes were tied. But that must have been some strong fishing line. I can't see any tiedown and in those days I doubt they had the technology to erase the ropes from the film. Otherwise lots of ramps woulda disappeared too!

Did they plan to have the blast knock them off their bikes? That's a very gutsy stunt for a TV show if it was intentional.

@tech9803 If you play it in slow motion, you will see the stunt guys intentionally turn their wheels hard to make it look like the explosion tossed them off the bikes. One hell of a gutsy move.

This show is was/is beyond stupid. In reality an explosion like that will liquify your guts and you are a dead fish. Even as a young man I thought the show was assinine. And the backround music is PORNO MUSIC

I remember how disappointed I was when I found out P & J's bikes were on a trailer while riding side by side.  Bummer...I just thought they had some real skills!

Just after the actors in scene 4 got back on their bikes, the pan out shot clip began without the original actors in the shot, they were replaced by Latex/Rubber dummy robots and the bikes were projected with wires tied to the under carriage to create a full flipping halt and crash effect , tossing the dummies off and see them bounce , the one of the left (suppose to be John) but that foam dummies robot bounces when it lands it's legs parallel.
