@RPproduction i´m pretty sure their muslim ants, and that´s their meca
-
they do it because a couple of the ants, at first leave a chem trail that the others follow. Unfortunately they did not lay down the trail of pheremones strait back to the colony and they made a circle. Other ants start following the trail which goes in a circle. More ants leave a trail making the circle more and more defined.

id so love to drop a match in the middle of that

If an ant gets isolated from the group and it doesn't know what to do or where to go, it will often follow another ant (cause he will probably know where to go or what to do, right!?). This circle usually means death to all the ants in it, meaning they will keep walking until they drop dead. Fascinating: these circles can grow over 1 mile in diameter!
It is actually a lot like humans do in many cases ;)

internet explorer does this too, but ends it with an error like: This page is referring in a circle that will never end. Operation aborted.
Ants' software apparently needs an update that includes an error like this.
