These new taxes were to go in effect for many cosmetic procedures and not just for tanning. Things like plastic surgery, tattoo's, nail and hair salons, and others in the beauty industry. But instead of dividing the taxes around these different areas Tanning salons got the whole tax themselves. This does single out one business and one revenue stream. What would you do if something like this was past for your small business?

It is not easier to target women and small business like Tanning Salons than large corporations with funds for powerful legal counsel?
-
wow obama should just tax everything else that black people dont do
-
surely then there should be no need for a tan?

aren't people from new york supposed to be really pale?

eh. the way i see it. when americans stop acting like dogs mindless lapping up antifreeze because it taste sweet, the government needs to address their lack of common sense.
us citzens feed a cycles of piss poor personal health while complaining about high medical costs.
keep eating near toxic quantities of processed filth and frying your bodies with radiation to meet the status quo dictated to you by your mind garbage media entertainment...
fucking bovine.

okahyaoga, You fucking dipshit! Education is one thing but you are advocating that government blackmail people into living "better". What a fucking moronic, freedom eroding thought process you have.

@rodzilla255 its not all white people that tan. anyone can tan. im sick of hearing that this tax is racist because it is not!!!
-
this is just crazy.....next you will find the government walking on the beach and in the parks charging everyone a tax for being in the sun.....at least in the salon the exposure is controlled...

Chacha5678 How do you explain that? Yes I am a tanning salon owner. The number of complaints thay Ive received for causing skin cancer in 15 years = 0. Im not trying to win you over as a customer and have no reason to try to convince you otherwise. Im just speaking as someone who has a little experience on the matter. What experience do you have? Or are you just speaking in unresearched, media driven opinion?
This isn't against small businesses. It is about making it more affordable to practice healthy lifestyles, and to discourage spending on unhealthy lifestyles. We should adopt this policy in more areas, such as nutrition... healthy food costs so much more than the unhealthy crap. It shouldn't be that way. Poor people should be encouraged to live healthy lifestyles by the market.

Tanning beds are a danger to health, therefore as an incentive not to use them like cigarettes, tax them and lower the taxes on necessary items.
People will continue to use them just as people continue to smoke.
