A video of me fighting the first part of the epic battle between the shrine maiden of the border, Reimu Hakurei, and the demon lurking in it, Yukari Yakumo
Yukari Yakumo (Whose name strikes fear on those who know better) is the Phantasm Boss of the game Perfect Cherry Blossom, the 7th installment of the Touhou Project and the only official game of the project that has a Phantasm mode. The Touhou Project is a series of danmaku shooters. Danmaku is a term than can be loosely translated (and quite aptly in my opinion) into "curtain of fire" or "bullet hell", thus denoting game were high density in bullet is more important than a lot of enemies. The series was created and is managed by the one man team Team Shanghai Alice, composed only of ZUN. For more information on the series, check the wiki at the end of the description.
Ah, Yukari. Where to start? Yukari is one of the oldest youkais in Gensokyo. Her existence predates the creation Gensokyo by at least 1000 years, since it was around that time that Yuyuko died and Yukari knew Yuyuko Saigyouji when she was alive. So in reality, she is probably over 1000 years since one needs to be quite powerful already to not die in front of human Yuyuko. Back unto Yukari's importance: Gensokyo's history and the history of youkais in general are tainted by Yukari's presence. She was the one that engineered the war for the Moon's surface, the suspected reason behind it being that she wanted youkais to learn not to be greedy. Later on she did a Xanatos Gambit to invade the Moon AGAIN, but this time for her own personal gain. There are high probabilities that she was involved in the creation of the Hakurei border as well as the "spiriting away" phenomenon, bringing more humans into Gensokyo throughout the years. She's also the one responsible for the weakening in the border between the Netherworld and Gensokyo, which enabled the events on PCB to occur. It is also heavily implied in Subterranean Animism that she was the one that gave the onis and the rest of the underground youkais their living place. In conclusion, Yukari won the title "Sage of Gensokyo" not by sleeping during the day and hibernating in winter.
Yukari's power is called "Manipulation of borders". Personally, I like to call it "Theoretical Omnipotence". This power allows her to control any kind of border in any sense of the word, be it the border between illusion and reality (I believe this is the border Yukari used to get to the moon the first time, but I'm unable to check), the border between here and there (I came up with this one and I supposed is tantamount to Komachi's manipulation of distance), or the border between life and death (this one is canon sort of.) Assuming the manipulation of borders does indeed allow for any sense of the word "border", the possibilities are endless. She can freaking throw TRAINS at you during a fight.
All in all, Yukari is one of the strongest and most predominant youkais in Gensokyo. Even if she's terribly lazy, she's the kind of person you want to have in your side. After all, she is holding said power, have a direct relationship with some of the most fearsome youkais in Gensokyo's surface, such as Yuyuko and Suika, telling some of the most fearsome and hated youkais to go and live underground, and probably being able to destroy Gensokyo on a whim since Gensokyo's existence is maintained thanks to the Hakurei BORDER. Not fun.
The fight itself is hard, no questioning that. I felt like it was easier than my first Extra bosses, but I'll attribute that to the fact that I have more experience and skill in Touhou than I did almost three months ago. One mistake I did during the fight is that I came thinking I was just going to fight Ran with an upgrade. While this holds truth for some spells, this assumption is ultimately wrong. Yukari's spells are different enough to deserve complete autonomy from Ran's. I learned that hard way. "Mea culpa"
Anyways, as you probably noticed, the video has two parts due to the length of the battle. I'll continue my description there hopefully.

Is she an extra stage boss?
crandor6 1 day ago
@crandor6
Yes. As a matter of fact, she's so much an extra boss, that she's the extra boss of the extra boss. Hence "Phantasm Boss"

@raak1010 What do yoou mean? extra of an extra?
crandor6 1 day ago
@crandor6
Upon meeting the first requirements, you unlock an extra stage in which the boss is Ran Yakumo. Upon beating said extra stage and meeting a second set of requirements, you unlock this stage, in which the boss is Yukari Yakumo

The "Banquet of 12 General Gods"'s Yukari counterpart is not called "Balence of Motion and Stillness" it is really "Balence of Motion and Silence".

@blackeyedp7
That... doesn't make sense. Motion and Stillness are opposite, but not Motion and Silence. Plus, the wiki says it's Stillness and I'm going by the wiki.
