  • Not interested in the business side, huh Rimii? But then...you do have the word "Lil" in front of your name and in your business's name. Wow! You keep doing what feels good while the adults make plans and stick to them.

  • @bigmetal Although I do fully agree with your concept of supply and demand.

A lot of wonderful band's DIDN'T sell out, and because of that people enjoyed it that much more.

This is a fine line to " discuss "...

    No right or wrong...

  • @bigmetal

    Well....

If you want to fine tooth and comb what I said, sure, band's like Metallica wouldn't be around.

But if you take it as a GENERAL concept, entertaining small, medium, and large venues then YES it is VERY true.

You can apply this concept to everything from business, to film, to the restaurant industry.

Remember this relates back to asking $800 for a gig... Let's not get side tracked with every exeption of the rule.

If you FIT the bill, you can ask for $800...

  • @IDontCareEnough you clearly don't know what the hell you're talking about.

By your rationale, bands like iron maiden wouldn't be bringing in 20,000 people a night or making any money. Nor would guys like guns n roses or motley crue still have careers. They are/were dirty drunken assholes. getting paid.

I'm talking about independent musicians. There is an over saturation of indie musicians touring. So venues/promoters don't pay out as much. It's supply/demand. Not grooming/hygiene/sobriety.

  • @bigmetal

    Well that's up to them ( you ) ...

Get a hair cut and play music that relates to more main stream, income minded people, and that wouldn't be a problem now would it.

If you want to make income in the business world, you need to be clean, polite, intelligent, and sober.

Why would there be a difference when it comes to music ?

  • oh my god... what band are you in that charges $800 per show... can i please play guitar for you

  • Yeah dude, I play in a serious hardcore punk band and the majority of shows we play take place in house parties. I'm sleeping in random people's houses and got next to nothing coming in.

  • pffft...this might be good advice if you were in a band playing in a genre that can get paid this kind of money. Tons of professional musicians playing in metal, hardcore, ska, punk etc. get paid $100 per show and have 4-5 mouths to feed each day of a tour, and a gas tank to fill. If they are lucky they sell merch, and can afford to eat something half decent, but they sure as hell are struggling to pay the rent.
