What i wanted to say is that this first part was more like an expedition. They didn't know what they will find, but they hoped that it will be a new route to India.
So you can call this first phase like you want, but the second phase was the one in which they started to conquer land.

I agree that they wanted to find a second route to india in order to avoid customs duty on the eastern route (and you are right, it wasn't prohibited).
Moreover, i agree that Columbus thought he has arrived at India, although it was America. The mistake was discovered several years after his death.
But as I said before, they wanted to find a cheaper trade route to India. Later, after the discovery of the mistake Kolumbus had made, they started to conquer the "new world".

I agree. The Chinese had the capability to reach the Western hemisphere but the Emperor prevented a mission there.

The Vikings beat everyone to the Western hemisphere. There is no evidence for a Chinese visitation.

No it was a conquest before discovery, but still conquest even later on.

But how you wanna conquer something, when you not even discovered it before?

So the logical way is: First discover, then conquer.

They did not started a discovery travel. They wanted to go to the East by going around the globe. This was because passing through middle-east ( if im correct) was not prohibited. When they stepped to "America" they named all local tribes as Indians cause they though this was India, although it was't. The trip was made to expand their trade centers, therefore, to conquer new places

Very interesting and historicall movie! Although this wasn't the first time that a european civilazation reached the America's. The first civilazation that discovered the America's were the portuguese, on 1324 under the command of captain Sancho Brandão. They arrived at the Fernando de Noronha islands and then the eastern brazilian coast. The second civilazation to reach the America's were the chinese in 1421. They discovered the coast of california (USA).
