Zachary Richard and Celine Dion also covered the song as a duet to be included on Zachary's forthcoming album "Last Kiss" to be released on April 7 in Canada and April 21 in the USA.

"Acadian Driftwood" is a partly fictional portrayal of an episode in the troubled history of Acadia, the Great Upheaval. Hailed as one of The Band's finest songs, it describes the forcible displacement of the Acadian people after war between the French and the English over what is now Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and part of Maine.

  • Why is the video all about Celine. First even she would say (and has) it was an honor to work with Zachary Richard. Their duet was incredible and the video should include them both and reflect the talents they both brought to the table..

  • @awoosoul The more images a video has the greater the risk of youtube removing it. I didnt want to make a video with Zachary;s image and running the risk of losing my video. If his images are protected then my video would get pulled.

I hope you understand my point

  • No one will ever top the Band's own version, but even not being a fan of Celine Dion, she did a pretty damn good job with it.

I agree that The Band's version is the benchmark. Compared to it I find this version insipid - no real feeling for the pathos involved in that event. I've heard amateur groups cover this with far more of the feeling necessary to convey what a tragedy this was.

  • It's a haunting song. I'm half cajun, but not a Louisiana native. That was my mom. When I did her genealogical chart I find Catherine Richard a distant grandmother (Joseph Broussard's mother). I don't know if I'm related to Zachary but I do share his birthday! Celine rules!

  • Great song, although the Band's version is the definate take, I find these images really out of sync with the Acadians who were forced into this exile. Are there no pictures from the song's time period that could be put up instead? It looks like one big commercial for Celine.

  • who's the guy at 2:34??? :P
