  • @typocursebug:

Thanks for helping with that this: "...and not receiving any joy in Jesus..." It sounds a very strange idea. I didn't realise he was opposing that, even after I listened to the tape. Thanks again :)

  • @5355vbxjbj76rvn Hello, I'm certain that you posted this comment with the concern that the Biblical definition of repentance wouldn't be taken lightly, and for that I'm thankful. : )

That said, Piper seems to indicate well enough in this short clip and especially in the context of the whole sermon that ultimate sacrifice in the sense of giving up everything and not receiving any joy in Jesus can't be supported with Scripture. We are to hate our lives "in this world" to gain life with God.

  • Define "ultimate self-denial" - self-denial, dying to self, is a necessity. To follow Christ involves taking up the Cross daily - there is no way around this. We can come to God on His terms - or, not come at all; we are not given any other alternatives. So that phrase "ultimate self-denial" badly needs explaining.

  • 2nd ;)

  • Amen
