In this video (check out part one for the beginning) I'm driving down Orange Blossom Rd. outside Oakdale CA. Farther east, it'll head into the small historic town of Knights Ferry, CA. As usual, this was filmed on my 400k+mile Toyota Echo Coupe's front license plate.

Knights Ferry has the longest covered bridge west of The Rocky Mountains, and sits at the end of a world renowned (to geologists) table mountain. The table mountain is essentially an ancient lava flow that filled a riverbed, and as the land around it eroded, the cooled lava stood above it making a mesa. It's one of the best examples of this in the world. the source of this volcanism is found many miles up Highway 108 (passes within half a mile of Knights Ferry) toward Sonora Pass, with an extinct volcanic neck called Dardanelle Cone. Sonora Pass is another fantastic road, but that's a later video, as of right now it's under the High Sierra Nevada snow.

Also, Knights Ferry has a good eat at The 1950's Roadhouse-- a '50's themed diner that's quite tasty. The day I went happened to be one of their biggest (if not the biggest) events of the year for them: a civil war reenactment. Normally-quiet streets were packed with cars, people, and motorcycles. Any other day it's much more subdued, and is good for hiking and kayaking the Stanislaus River that runs through it.

  • I'm pretty sure that Knights Ferry is not east of the rocky mountains. :)

  • @stonefry Duly noted and fixed.

  • in my vette i pulled 105 easy and 60 -90 mph on every corner promise on the strait back on 120 165 coming into oakdale 140 past the golfcourse and had to slow down at the big 5 light

  • @deancoleone Spoken like a teenager. Please, read diam2265's message. At most I hit 60 on this road, not out of fear or lack of power (I could likely see 90-100 on parts of Orangeblossom if I wanted), but because it's just unsafe to do more than that. It's a 45 zone for a reason-- residences, low visibility because of bushes, the possibility of deer (damn straight they are out there), along with other people who may be coming the direction doing the same asinine thing. Think.

  • Nice. Sorry if I got a little close to the double yellow. You on Pashnit?

  • @hduncan2587 My Cousin's son just got killed in a motorcyle accident on 9/24/10 on this same road he was 23 years old a day after my son's 24th birthday. I found your video and wanted to live his last days on this world. I felt like I was riding with him. God Bless young Jonathan Sanchez. Thanks for your video Duncan.
