The Bear made so much noise that the US SOSUS (Sound surveillence system)--which where built to detect soviet submarines--could hear the Bear when it was flying over the sea. (And the sousus system where placed on the bottom of the sea!)

@fpsBeaTt Slow? its the same speed as the 8 engine B52, and its far from unsophisticated. How many western propellor aircraft, like the C130, A400M, E2C, the P3, etc have contra-rotating propellors?

Also, did you know at takeoff, a propellor aircraft actually creates more lift than a jet powered aircraft?

Can a B52 take off from unprepared airfields? No

It also negates the risk of foreign object damage from unprepared runways like rocks

There are many reasons they chose props instead of jets
