Kudos to Philips Recorda and to Sir Colin Davis for engaging a vocally well-matched sextet of principals for this recording (in addition to Carreras and Wixell, the recording also features Katia Ricciarelli, Ashley Putnam, Robert Lloyd, and - well, I've forgotten who recorded Schaunard!) - and, for that matter, singers who had sung with each other and with Davis. Ingvar Wixell sings over Jose Carreras to much, they should have got a stronger tenor.
