This is footage from the Monster Hunter Tri Wii demo for commentary and educational purposes. It is to demonstrate gameplay mechanics and other aspects of the game to a userbase that may be largely uninformed of the series.

The demo is available on a physical disc now at Game Stop stores. Some locations are simply giving the demo away to any interested parties, while other locations are insisting a pre-order is necessary to obtain the demo.

The demo offers several different pre-made characters with different weapon types for experimentation, as well as two different hunts across several different environments. The demo does not run in 16:9 widescreen or in 480p, although the final product will. The demo, as well as the final game, also supports the Classic Controller (in addition to the Wii Remote and Nunchuk), and the final game will have an optional bundle for the new Classic Controller Pro for $10 USD more. The final game will support up to 4 players over Nintendo Wifi Connection, as well as Wii Speak.

Monster Hunter Tri releases for the Wii on April 20th, 2010.

  • It's scary that people can try the demo and still think the game will be good.

It has a lot of good going for it, but the biggest part of the game (the fighting mechanics for your character) are terrible. You get a single attack, and you get a dodge. No block...no skills...not even an alternate attack (strong attack, fast attack, etc).

The attack animation just looks horrible. (granted, this is a Wii game, but still)

Better luck next time Monster Hunter.

  • @Upup2211 Each weapon has a few different attacks, some executed by context, button combinations or charging (the Sword and Shield combo used in this video actually has DOES have a block as well), and as any veteran will tell you, not knowing how to properly use those attacks will get you killed.

So, actually, I think it's more scary that people play a demo, don't understand what they played at all, and then chastise the game and its players.

  • The demo was kind of enjoyable but being new to the series I was very confused by the combat. Also I don't understand the purpose or story, why are we killing the dinosaurs just existing here.

  • There is no story. And they're monsters. I don't think we really need a purpose to kill monsters. :)

  • looks great. too bad i'm not in to these open world do whatever you want type games.

  • @zxgohan It's actually not really open world. There isn't a story or anything like that either, but you basically accept quests and then jump to the appropriate map.

  • cooooool. i never knew you get demos from gamestop. thanks for that tip. cuz i really wanna get this game cuz it looks cool. im a newbie to the series. i never really heard of this series till this this game came for wii.

  • i was wondering why your Wii looks so much better than mine, lmao. i did recently buy another wii, and i cant even figure out whats going on when i play this game, it appears so blurry and pixalated, my other consoles look amazing, are you using the "high def" cables that you can get for the Wii?

  • OOOMGGG!!! what happened to the dual blades???!!!!

    NOOOOO

  • @Upup2211 Uh.. single attack? You mean a single weapon per mission right? It does have block and why would you need skills? It does have strong attack, fast attack...

Wow the crap that is spouting from your mouth tells me you have never even seen someone playing this game for any length of time and you just came to hate on a game for no reason.

  • @tvandlust So it's like Madworld, just killing fools for fun! >=D

  • @Upup2211 lol it seems like you haven´t played any monster hunter.

Way of using weapons is based on your skill.

It´s not like you cast skills to attack like in every MMORPG or such.

Every weapon got some attack moves and that´s enough it won´t get boring even after 1000 hours of gaming(my psp MH2 is at around 900 Hours) and i still play it online for hours each day.

The combat mode didn´t changed much at all.

  • zomg cant wait!!!!!
