Writer and agriculturalist Wendell Berry started following sustainable farming practices long before many new what "organic" meant. "Bringing It to the Table: On Farming and Food" is a collection of his most influential essays in which he describes pure and sustainable farming with personal anecdotes and profiles of farmers operating truly organic farms (not just "organic" by label). Progressive Book Club's Maureen Scarpelli stopped by Four Winds Farm in Gardiner, N.Y., to show how Berry's advice can be actualized in today's farming world.

  • what we have also to acknowledge (and I love what you're doing and would love to do it here but there are four of us living on three quarters of an acre so we can barely sustain ourselves, let alone others!) is that we are deeply and irredeemably interconnected with those who would simply exploit and unless and until we confront them, with respect, with dignity, we will continue to feel the effects of an exploitative attitude. Very nice vid. Lucy, west of Ireland.
