Robert provides refuge for a homeless family for the night. The following morning he discovers that the family left their daughter, Polly, behind. When Robert takes Polly to work with him at the manor, Adelaide becomes enchanted with the girl and wishes to adopt her for her own. At the post office, Dorcas and Laura devise a matchmaking scheme with the intention of uniting Thomas with the minister's daughter, but their plan results in unexpected misunderstandings.

Sir Timothy is such a selfish git! Polly and Adelaide would have been so good for each other, and for Sir T. too.

I'm not happy with Timothy's behaviour in this clip.

First things first, Poppy would be MUCH better off with Adelaide. As would Adelaide herself. God knows, there are worse things that can happen to an abandoned mute homeless girl than being raising by a loving wealthy woman like Adelaide.

Second, the LAST thing that Timothy should do is recruit Dorcus - Adelaide's potential rival for Timothy's affections - in his betrayal of his wife.

I think Sir Timothy is selfish as he wants to have a happy marriage with Adelaide but keep the romantic notion of him and Dorcas when they were young. I really feel for Adelaide and Dorcas.

First time I watched this series I loved ST and wanted him and him and D to get together- I thought A was intolerable.

But second time around, ST is really annoying me, he's such a git and I feel for A in this episode... Always have loved Dorcas though :)

@ealaara I think the real reason is that Adelaide might be infertile (or Sir Thomas is, but they didn't have the medical ability to tell which at the time and the wife always got the blame). After 4 1/2 years trying to concieve, the squire might have to consider a divorce if he needs a male heir to carry on his estate and office.

Is Dorcas in love with Sir Timothy? I think so. And why can't Adelaine keep Polly? Is it because Polly isn't blue blood? oh please. As for Zillah, I would put her out with the cat.
