@mharrop396 2 reasons. 1. If the flaps were down while stationary, a gust of wind would put unneeded stress on the wing. 2. On smaller aircraft, the flaps are retracted to keep the wind from picking it up.

@sonytennis2009 That would be awesome, except I went to Hawaii in the summer time, so it was 60 F at 6am in Washington where I originated...but I definitely enjoyed the Hawaiian weather after that long 8.5 hour flight......
