A newly discovered dinosaur species that roamed the Earth about 200 million years ago may help explain how the creatures have become the largest animals on land. These fossils could tell us a lot about the extinct species.

The fossilised bones of the Aardonyx celestae, a small-headed herbivore, were unveiled to the media in South Africa on Wednesday November 11, to coincide with the publication of the scientists' findings in the Proceedings of The Royal Society B, a London-based peer-reviewed journal.

Australian paleontologist Adam Yates led the international research team. Yates explains that from the very first day of the dig they were aware that this was something special.
