  • mine is a 04 GTS ( VVTL-i) in the uk, and it redlines at just short of 8200rpm o0 however, when I put mine on a dyno its max power was at just over 7800.

  • if it is a 04 then its redline is at 7800.,. it has the restrictions.. its an 04!!! if you had a 00' or 01' you could rev to bout 8300.. get a power fc and tune it.. ;)

  • I have an 01' GT-S. I can rev it up to 8300rpm? I thought only the 00' was capable of that.

  • im pretty sure.. try it.. you shouldnt hear the rev limiter at bout 8200-8300ish..

they say the 2000 is the fastest model being the first year and it not having all the restrictions the newer ones have..

  • i have an 04 gts.

can i pop the rev limiter?

  • actually the o4 and 03 are 8400 rev limitier and the 02 and 05 are 7800

  • for crying out loud, Lift and V-TEC are the same thing, its just variable valve timing. the computer gets programed to change the valve timing at a certain rpm to give the car more power... alfa invented this little trick decades ago and then honda copied it... without vtec honda have nothing good (cept for nsx's they were sweet)

  • totally agree with you

  • All that noise to get to 35 mph? Christ......

  • @averagejimmy Except... it's not timing. At all. Oh your comment was 3 years ago =P

  • @jonvtec only the 2000 could do that because those restrictions were put into effect in late 2000 when 01's were being produced. the 2000's were made in 99 and early 2000. i have a 2000 gts and i love it. also, the lift in the 2000's started at 6000 and after that because of restrictions and such (and more concern in fuel economy) they bumped the lift up to around 6500-6700. small range that varies by every car

  • i suppose it could help scavenging, but tbh i think vvtli and vtec are pretty crude systems anyway. sound good though

  • @celicaguy81 the L in VVTL-i and vtec its not just and exhaust lift. it does both intake and exhaust cams. whats the point of opening the exhaust valve more if u dont have more gas and fuel mixture to get rid off?? it doesnt make sense. even single overhead cams on hondas that are vtec do both intake and exhaust lifts.

  • its like putting a bigger cam on a v8 only difference vvtl-i and vtec can choose when to use the bigger cam lobe. when this happens valve open more and more fuel and gas gets in the cylinder which make the noticeable loud noise when it engages. learn ur stuff first man.

  • @averagejimmy. altho toyotas vvtl-i and vtec has basically the same function it is not just a valve timing change. almost all cars now have variable valve timing. but wat makes lift and vtec activiation different is that the cam have two lobes per valve. one small lobe for low rpm and a bigger lobe for high rpm. whenever activiation point is reached oil pressure on both toyotas and hondas make the cam shift to its high lobe not changing valve timing but the actual valve lift and duration.

  • @hvtecfreak lol no. does Not give more power...

  • @jonvtec You went back on what you said. You said first that the 04 and 03 are 8400 and the 02 and 05 are 7800, now you say the 04 goes to 7800....huh?

  • @trendkill777 tnx for the info dude,
