I wasn't talking like only the US allies itself with criminals, etc. I wasn't talking in generalities. I was talking about a particular case: the invasion and occupation of Iraq, and America's relationship to Saddam.

The secular part doesnt mean anything when you see what kind of brutal dictator he turned out to be. Saddam was the dog of America the CIA helped him to takeover power in Iraq so yes I know the real reason for the 2003 war wasn't 'Americans are angels that came to liberate the Iraqis' Yes, most of the countries in the Middle East are dictatorships but Saddam was the worst for his own people. It is wrong to look at this issue only from a western perspective *he was our ally* no, he was a criminal

I wasn't saying Saddam was a good guy. I was saying he was a monster when he worked for the US and a monster when the US decided he had turned on them by invading kuwait. I'm saying that the US invasion (and the sanctions before that) turned a viable and livable country into a slaughterhouse. (And an Iranian ally, for that matter.)

All the countries in the Middle East are dictatorships. I think the advantage that Iraq had was that it was the most secular.

Until the first Gulf War Iraq was arguably the most advanced, secular country in the Arab world. Saudi Princes and anyone with the money would go there for medical treatment because it was the best in the area.

Of couse Saddam might decide he didn't like you and torture your family to death, but that's another matter.

He was an American asset until he invaded Kuwait. That was either a misjudgedment or the US set him up.

The 03 invasion was a classic war of aggression. We murdered Iraq.
