John Daly wasn't fired by ABC, but he did resign in protest in 1960. after ABC decided to run The Flintstones on election night instead of election returns for the first half hour of prime time. Daly was the main ABC News anchor then.

@WintersWar He was a bit of a phony. Judy Garland fans don't like him because he was rude and kind of mockish to her when she was a guest on his show. And he was also cruel and rude to pianist Oscar Levant when he was a Tonight Show guest. He had a mean streak.

struck me as kind of phony to me.

I love Arlene Francis too! :P

Jack and I have something in common then; I love Arlene too. She was a great host and should have done so on tv, not just radio. He is so friendly and warm. Nice clip.

The greatest Tonight Show host!

@MegaObserver1 Arlene would have been a great host, but Carson was an icon.

Jack did love Arlene (not THAT way) they were very close friends. Jack would have liked Arlene to replace him on the Tonight Show, but NBC wouldn't even consider a woman. So Jack's next recommendation was Johnny Carson who also guest hosted his show a few times (as did Arlene). Arlene's reference to NBC not "loving" her was about her NBC afternoon show called "Home" which had been canceled

I thought the comment on being interrupted by commercials, "6 in a row," was interesting. I'd love to to see that miserable trend reversed. It was a sad day in TV history when the network made Johnny Carson quit making fun of the sponsors. He used to just rag on the products he was supposed to pitch. Funnier than hell.
My favorite panelist, without doubt, is Arlene. She was just such a nice person; it's what she was known for I suppose but she was so wonderful!

I must say the very same about the perpetual lisping Babba Waawaa aka Barbara Walters..., mainly elitest in that they became so engulfed in the rarified air of celbrity hero worship that a real normal connection with mere mortal men has escaped their reach-
All that said Miss Dorothy K. made no overt attempt to suggest that she possessed a superior status, she was always quite polite and gracious ...unlike that of the Bombastic Miss Baabaa...
