the guy from shining does understand something that while it's not the essence of BM, it's definitely on the outskirts and in the minds of many of the listeners- the running toward self destruction thing. its just when you see reality and embrace nihilism (which is true BM) you go one of 2 ways- taking in all life offers/pleasure (most people), or seeing how far you can take things without dying. its seeing your life as an experiment in self destruction. it is not about trying to be a 'badass'.

can we just leave the guy alone. I have massive respect for this man. Yeah sometimes he doesnt make sense to me but still he created something that is one of a kind and beautiful.
oh and Erik Danielsson; massive inspiration to me. He shits on Jesus and wipes his ass on the pope.
