Recently, I was asked by a friend (Amp) on how to turn a router into a wireless adapter. He wanted to do this because wireless signal was weak in his room because of how far away his router was. Long story short, I helped him figure it out.

That began to make me think about my current situation (as I sat in my basement). I, too, wanted to put my stuff in my room but my router signal quality (not signal strength) was too poor to have good connection. Instead of making my old router into an adapter, I decided to make it into a wireless repeater.

A wireless repeater simply redistributes the signal of your original source (being my original wireless router). So you will have two wireless networks instead of one. You choose the one that's closest to you (obviously). So I thought of making a tutorial because I would assume a lot of people could have the same situation.

You'll need a wireless router capable of using the DD-WRT firmware. I did a quick run-through on installing it. I didn't cover a lot of the basics though mainly due to time restraint (and that the video wasn't aimed to cover that). There are many DD-WRT guides/walkthroughs on the interweb you can find if mine didn't explain enough.

The website to check if your router is compatible is http://www.dd-wrt.com

If you have any questions for me, please leave a comment or PM me.

Thanks!
