SAMPLE EPISODE ONE with NO COMMERCIAL INTERRUPTION! Manji visits a priest in order to confess his sins, namely killing his lord and 100 of his retainers, an act that earned him the moniker "Killer of 100." The priest, who is actually a con artist, attempts to kill Manji by shooting him in the forehead, but Manji kills him and regenerates the wound. Manji returns to his home to find Yaobikuni, a nun who placed "sacred bloodworms" into Manji that make him immortal, and his sister Machi. That evening, Machi dreams of the time when Manji was forced to kill her husband, a police officer pursuing Manji, causing her to lose her mind. After the dream, she wanders into the night and is captured by a group of ronin led by the brother of the priest Manji had killed. Manji pursues Machi but is unable to prevent her from being killed. In response, he kills every member of the ronin group, and upon returning to Yaobikuni, declares that he will seek redemption for the 100 men he killed by killing 1000 evil men. A few times during this episode we see Rin praying at her father's grave, as she swears to take revenge on Anotsu.

  • The anime seriously cannot even begin to touch how amazing the printed books are. Hiruaki Samura's brilliant artwork is lost in this stuff. Buy the manga, its so much better than this stuff

  • @zlkimagenX No, I'm Swedish, but I study Japanese and have a general interest in cultural differences and symbols. It's a pity such a beautiful symbol has been tainted by the nazis here in the west, that's why I think its important to preserve I'ts original meaning in the places where it's still stands for good things. But, as you say anime is often exported. It might be good to include a explanation of the symbol in the dubbed version, as they did in the manga (at least the ones I have).

  • thats not a bean cake its horse shit

    HORSE....SHIT? lol

  • I've only read the first volume of the manga, which this episode seems to partially adapt, and... did they change a lot of stuff for the anime or is it just me? I remember just about all of these scenes playing out differently.

Surprised they managed to do the thing where Manji carves his name into that guy's head -- the symbol on the back of his outfit is called a manji and is how his name is spelled.

  • "Matchi it's not a bean cake, it's horse shit!" lol

  • The swastika shown on Manji's kimono is the original form. The word "swastika" is from the Sanskrit "su asti" which means "all is well." The Nazi swastika is reversed (i.e. NOT the same as the one on Manji's kimono, for the benefit of those of you who lack the chromosomes to make the distinction).

  • @TheComeandplay I'm guessing pretty shitty
