And he that counteth forty waves, while repeating: 'God is Most Great!' - exalted be He - God will forgive his sins, both past and future." - Epistle To the Son of the Wolf

8. The Apostle of God - may the blessings of God and His salutations be upon Him - hath also said: "He that looketh upon the sea at eventide, and saith: 'God is Most Great!' at sunset, God will forgive his sins, though they be heaped as piles of sand. And he that counteth forty waves, while repeating: 'God is Most Great!' - exalted be He - God will forgive his sins, both past and future." - Epistle To the Son of the Wolf

When I was in Akka, I counted the forty waves while praying "Allah'u'Abha", God is Most Glorious. After completion of the prayer, this wave of feeling came over me like I had been "laundered" ;-) It was as if I was a shirt, and all the stains had been washed out. So I realized that I am not my sins, or the stains on my soul. It was truly the most amazing experience of my life.

@FromPersia - he does cite the Hadith, saying specifically that it is true.

It sounds worth a try taking it literally if you're ever in Akka.
btw That's from the book "Epistle to the Son of the Wolf" not Epistle to the Son of the Bitch.

Baha'u'llah doesn't say those words himself. He is commenting on an Islamic hadith I believe.

" And he that counteth forty waves, while repeating: God is Most Great!—exalted be He—God will forgive his sins, both past and future. - Baha'u'llah (Epistle to the S.O.B.)
