Shiloh at Gillfield Baptist: "Jesus Is a Rock in a Weary Land"

A contemporary rendition of the Negro Spiritual directed by Thomas Dixon Tyler... Most of Shiloh Baptist Church's Gospel Choir and more than 50 additional officers and members of this leading Washington, D.C., congregation accompanied Senior Minister Rev. Dr. Wallace Charles Smith to the 211-year-old Gillfield Baptist Church of Petersburg, Virginia, to install the Rev. Dr. George Lyons as Pastor during the 5 p.m. service on Sunday August 31, 2008. Dr. Lyons is the 12th Senior Minister of the church led many years ago by the Rev. Dr. Wyatt Tee Walker, who appeared in this service to lead a charge to the new Pastor, who served as an Assistant Pastor at Shiloh several years ago. The sister churches are 120 miles apart. You cannot see Dr. Lyons in the video because he is in the front of the congregational seating area: Because this was the installation service proper, Dr. Lyons is seated with his family in a front pew in the nave, as opposed to sitting in the chancel area or at the pulpit, from where the service was read (most importantly to him).

I wish I could have heard more of this! I sang this with our district choir quite a few years ago, and this was the only video I could find on youtube that sounded even a little bit similar to how we sang it. I'll have to upload my version sometime. We loved doing this song!
