One of a series of "thoughts for the day" recorded by Jonathan, for RTE radio, shortly before his untimely death in March, 2000.

  • For the record, my brother did not kill himself, did not fall down the stairs and was not in charge of his son when he died. The coroner's report found that had his son, or anyone else, been in his presence, then the cuts which he sustained to his head needn't have proved fatal. Unfortunately, he was alone, had been drinking heavily and didn't realise the seriousness of his injuries. He was certainly no saint, but I love him and I miss him.

  • Jonathon, in my view, either drove people mad or they loved him. I thought he was refreshing, liked his style.Pity he's not still around. Was saddened by his premature departure. I'm sure he would have gone on to even greater things.

  • 'Boredom is when you're not learning': so true! Have just been listening to piece by composer, Roger Doyle, which includes a reading by your late brother. What a great loss. But thank you for the memories.

  • Seem to remember that he killed himself by falling down the stairs whilst drunk and in charge of his young child. What a sense of responsibility !.

  • ABIE your question not at all, i recall that comment from a friend when i told him the news, and altough it was not a nice thing to say, i did laugh at it no, no agenda

  • I remember a great story about Jonathan and Saul going to Paris and Saul had no shoes so he wore rollerblades the whole time...I loved that. The sheer fun of it...

  • Good stuff, Abie.

"Boredom is when you're not learning."

    I like that.
