the International Jazz workshop has taken place on April 20-26 2009 with Manfred Bründl, teacher at Liszt Weimar Academy: the Kontrabass guru, internationally renowned fine composer and soloist, has carried out a top level masterclass at teatro delle arti with the enthusiastic participation of many students from the Jazz Department. Involvement and interest were so high also Salerno Jazz teachers wanted to share in the final concert.

Manfred Bründl was born in Regensburg (Germany) at the age of 9 he received viola and violin lessons. In 1972 he began to take classic double bass lessons and in 1974 to play the electric bass. At the age of 12 he devoted himself to jazz. From 1979 to 1980 Bründl has lived in London. From 1980 to 1985 he studied jazz and classical music at Graz academy of music in Austria with Wayne Darling, Krawagna (Wiener Symphoniker), Dieter Glawischnig, Adelhard Roidinger, Peter Herbolzheimer and Bo Stief. In 1982 he became member of Heinz Sauer Quartet. In 1985 he moved from Graz to Mainz and then to Wiesbaden and became an exponent of the Frankfurt jazz. In 1985 he founded his own quartet called "Basslab" and has carried out a tour of Africa in 1987 for the Goethe-Institut. In 1989 Bründl has become university professor at Mainz University and at Peter-Cornelius-Konservatorium of Mainz. In 1990 he made a tour in Asia and Turkey (India, Sri Lanca, Nepal, Pakistan), in 1994 in Canada and in 1995 in America (Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico and Cuba) for the " Goethe-Institut". After having composed in 1995 Farblichtklänge for Saarland Radio unit contemporary music depatment Bründl has become teacher of international workshops receiving in 1995 the jazz award of Frankfurt city. In 1996 he has become professor, dean and principal of Franz Liszt Weimar music Academy jazz institute where he moved in 1998. In 1999 he founded the cross-over ensemble "Composers Orchestra Weimar"; with which he went in tour and recorded every year, combining together classical music and jazz. In 2003 Bründl founded his new group SILENT BASS with sahophonist Hugo Read, pianist Achim Kaufmann and drummer Jo Thönes. He has performed in the following festivals: Bombay, New Delhi (jazz Yatra), Frankfurt/Deutsches Jazzfestival, " Post This & New That" at Cologne Philharmonic Hall, Lucerna, Basel, Ljubljana, Zagreb, Toronto and Montreal, among others. Bründl has performed with Albert Mangelsdorff, Charlie Mariano, Barry Altschul, Herb Ellis, Craig Harris, Phil Wilson, Winstone Norm, Terumasa Hino, Leo Wright, Zach Danziger, Wayne Krantz, Aldo Roman, Francoise Jeanneau, Harry Pepl, Ack van Rooyen, Fritz Pauer, Christof Lauer, T.M. Stevens, Matthias Schubert, Bill Elgart, Jo Nay, Simon Nabatov, Stefan Bauer, Michael Sagmeister, Ingrid Schmithüsen, prof. Michinori Bunya in order to name some. Bründl has carried out numerous recordings for radios and televisions and soundtracks. Guest of many important European televisions and radio jazz shows like Deutschlandfunk 2003 where the Composers Orchestra has performed his composition " JODO" for jazz and string quartet. In 2000 Bründl has recorded the sountrack of the movie " Mein Bruder der Idiot" (ZDF/Arte) with trumpeter Till Brönner. He has published A New Approach To Playing The Double-& Electric Bass (Schott/Mainz)
