@LoveForChinaForava those are tailing ponds, and they arent all over Alberta, theres a few beside the plants at the oil sands mines. I work there.

@Baseshocks It is my understanding that the construction costs of a nuclear power plant are so high that when you amortize it over the life of the facility it is not nearly as economical as its operating costs would suggest.

@LoveForChinaForava the tar sands aren't "all over alberta" so even if that's how they do it for the tar sands the pools wouldn't be "all over alberta". With the drilling rigs they aren't allowed to leave anything behind like that.

@cameronsmart1 when will they learn, no many places ya can build a dam, plus kind of fucks up the environment, only if we had enough geothermal pockets, as for wind-power, the wind does not blow hard enough all the time. we just had a bunch of em built in Ontario now its going to cost us millions cause wind ant strong enough, having to maintain windmills and coal plants errr.......... reality is nuclear power.

its funny, BUT REALLY TRUE AND SAD!!! you can see the huge pools of water where they dump the waste water all over alberta, cause they have to distill the oil from the oil sands, and you can't use the water in those pools for 50 year or somethign cause they have so many heavy chemicals.
