The color stayed, it quite a good fish; it wasn't like other red- black which will have it's colour changed over time (usually to orange gold). It's a pit, it has R.I.P.

The colour was like this when I bought it. I feed it with Saki-Hikari dried food; additionally, it helped itself with the algae in the pond ;)
