Polly model engineering make a model of this under the name of an atmospheric gas engine

Those are so amazingly cool! I've always wanted one but havent been able to find one for sale.

so what you have a hole in the side no valves cooooolll
-
Thise gas compositions look like wood gas.

It runs by taking in hot gases on induction and the cooling of the gas in the cylinder causes a vacuum that pulls the piston up from bottom dead centre, then there is a cooling stroke and it repeats itself after that, some flame lickers have a slide operated induction valve for the flame. There is no combustion in the chamber,it works solely on the principle of cooling gases contract creating a vacuum,Sterling engines use the same principal but in a different way, flame lickers are just a novelty,

Seems to really like that gas mix, strange gas mixture though!!

Hi,
I am absolutely intrigued by the vid as this engine breaks a few rules. I am trying to make something similar called an atmospheric engine, similar to a Schoenner. I can't see how your gas is fed to the cylinder to give an explosive mixture. Is there any source on the technicalities of this superb little engine?

is this like a tractor motor or some thin its awesome tho....

Although I can't compare the composition (as I can't find it quickly thru' W'pedia)isn't this gas is very similar to wood gas (might be more CO in wood gas)? Have you thought to try it on this? (see all the youtube vids re: how to make it using various containers)
is this being run on hydrogen ????

The beginning of the video lists the fuel composition. It is 60% hydrogen.

where does the exaust come out
sz42781 3 years ago
Everywhere!!! There is a puff of exhaust from the ignition hole on the side of the cylinder and the rest comes out the air inlet in the nickle plated opening at the top of the cylinder end. You can feel these puffs although it is a good way to burn your fingers.

i have never heard of a paradox gas engine. This is very amazing. any way i can get plans for one?

I have never seen any construction plans. It would be nice to have since you almost have to destroy the engine to get it apart. If you find anything, please let me know. Not sure where you live, but I hope to have it on display and running next Saturday at the NAMES show in Toledo, OH
