Have you watched part 1? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ubR9sCyJC0

How to liven up and add a healthy glow to the "traditional" 1940s make up look. Perfect for gals with fair skin who feel washed out by many of the 40s makeup looks.

This video came about after one of the ladies who reads my blog wrote me asking if I knew any tricks to add some color to her 1940s look. She said that with the bright red lip, neutral eye, and black liner, she felt it was a little harsh with her pale skin. So here are my tips and tricks for doing just that! I know some of these will be "old hat" for some, but I hope a few people find it helpful!

Be sure to drop by my blog for more: http://blog.caseybrowndesigns.com

Products I mention and/or recommend:
♥ Rimmel "Stay Matte" pressed powder in 005
♥ Ulta store brand bronzer (sorry, I don't know the name/number)
♥ Victoria's Secret bronzer in "Ipanema"
♥ Victoria's Secret blush mosaic (not shown in video, but I have recently started using it and *love* the application!)
♥ MAC eyeshadows: yogurt, brule, sushi flower, romping, wedge, naked lunch
♥ Rimmel eyeshadows: moonstone (may be discontinued)
♥ Other eyeshadows that work: Mary Kay precious pink
♥ MAC creme lip liner in "Cranapple"
♥ MAC lipstick in "Russian Red"
♥ ELF lipgloss in "Goddess"

  • Thank you so much for your replies on my questions. :) Really appreciate it!

Do you get your accessoires like earrings and bags in regular stores or thrift shops as well? I love how well you pick your pieces.

  • @ashers303 You're very welcome! :) For things like bracelets, necklaces and handbags, it's generally a 50/50 split between thrift stores and new retail. But for earrings and such, I tend to prefer to buy them brand new from places like Forever 21 and various Etsy shops. :)

  • Can you help me? I've been searching for 1940's swing/big band/jazz type music, like you would hear in antique stores and the music clips at the start of your tutorials. But I've had little luck, with the exception of the discovery of the Andrews Sisters! Do you have any personal favorites or suggestions? Thank you!

  • @lurancyvennum97 Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie... those are just a few of my favorites! Once you get into swing/jazz music, you start to discover so many more. :)

  • Thanks this was really helpful, but i have dark brown hair, and i have really dark eyes too so sometimes the red lips don't really suit me, do you have any suggestions for me?

  • @BabygalLondon I would suggest either a light coral-red or even a deep, rosy pink for you! Both are perfectly acceptable for the 40s, and a bit less bright than the red. Although you might want to try out some different shades of red; most people have a great shade of red that really flatters--it just takes some searching of different brands to find that perfect match! :)

  • Thanks so much for this, I always admired the older classic styles like the 40s makeup. You're very beautiful by the way and this look compliments you SO well. I wish this style came back into the mainstream more, girls will look so much elegant and feminine than they do now.

  • I just wanted to say that I think you're adorable, and watching your videos is making me really wish I hadn't cut all my hair off a few months ago because now I can't go all vintage without feeling like something's missing :(
