@captjamestquirked the greed of the union made the operaters and managment of mills unable to afford to revamp to keep up to date the technology and the simply mind of the work believed that union bullshit so mill workers slept at the mill but worked somewhere else in the day the work force ran their own jobs into the ground !

It was even worse than this during the Great Depression. Thankfully, Youngstown now has it's new V & M Star.

Is very funny see the people of a falling empire blaming other countries for your decadence. The steel industry in USA was destroyed? Protectionism and import taxes do not save the steel industry or the worker's jobs. Just kept some politicians in their places. Why I modernise my plants if i have a huge market free of competition?

China did not build China. American business used their profits to invest in China and make it a manufacturing power house instead of investing in America. Why blame the Chinesse?

I think the Unions brought down the Steel industry not the Corporations.

You should move to Japan.

@ccmaryann : Negativ, I'm refering to General Motors.

@N9155E Could you be refering to Toyota? (snicker) Or perhaps you refer to the inferior Chinese steel we bulid our bridges and schools with? Cheaper is not better and these products often start out as quality items and then the quality declines.....again, see Toyota.

@ccmaryann I couldn't have said it better myself. America was just fine before congress started trying to fix things that didn't need fixed. Had we had no congress the last 40 years and save the U.S. taxpayer the money America would be a whole lot better off. America is the home of the worst corporate leaders on earth. The leaders in congress just keep on scratching their heads like they can't figure it out. Time to just admit they are wrong and go a new direction.
It is absolutely disgusting to see what greedy corporate scum and the politicians did to this town and our country. 30 years later and what now geniuses? We can no longer maintain our American empire. Oops. We are in debt up to our asses, our kids are a bunch of idiots and our "service" economy is the joke of the world. We had a nice way of life. Youngstown was a nice place.

I must tell you this is one of the first prime examples of large corperate greed that has robbed the dreams and pride of the hardest working people in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Our national government does not give a "FLIP"about us. We have for years been sold down the river. God bless Steel workers, Tool and Die Makers, and Auto workers.
