  • Punch the Clock is favourite EC Album right after Spike...

Anyway, I don't think this album is too over produced, its just got a lot more music(instruments) Brass section, bass drums, piano, and on certain tracks some guitars, thats a lot, not to mention vocals...

And even more so is that everything is set up to be the main focus... you can pick and chose as it pleases you, be it brass, bass, vocals, whatever!

  • I am so very curious as to the motivation for this construction????

  • @floridacomedyfan Different, not better.

  • when my ex dumped my ass, i musta listened to this song 100 times

  • On the Rhino double CD the second "free" CD has the entire album in demo form and if far superior to the studio record. In my opinion...

  • Punch the Clock with the TKO Horns was the best thing that Elvis Costello ever did - bar none. Paul Speare and Jimmy Paterson - outstanding.

  • @wpollock1 Yes! Very over produced. I own the double cd that has the original versions of all of the songs on this album on acoustic guitar. They are all brilliant but not like this.

  • I DO think this album was over-produced and with the exception of Charm School and a few others, this was a bit of a disappointment. Steve plays wonderful piano, but if sounds like most of the songs were written fast and EC substitutes Afrodisiac (I think that is the background vocals) and the horn section for originality and crisp songs.

  • cool song, charm school is even better imao

  • Personally I like the demo versions that are on the double cd's better. Agreed too over produced. Still a great album..

  • i think punch the clock was too overproduced, the accompaniment took over the songs, and really i would think focus on his lyrics and his voice would be the most important.....
