"A new Liberal government will make our cities, our communities, and our schools safer by getting military assault weapons off our streets." Mr. Dion went on to argue that, "military assault weapons have no connection to hunting or sport shooting, and serve absolutely no purpose in our society. No one outside of the military needs these weapons and we would all be safer without them in Canada."
Mr. Dion didn't bother to explain to Canadians that such firearms have been banned since 1978.
The journalist's question is plain and understandable enough (and my first language is French).
It looks like Mr Dion cannot imagine he's being asked a simple and direct question. He's not really listening. He is in "agenda promoting" mode, which is normal. But what he had to say was soooo complicated and detailed, no wonder Stephen Harper's message gets through (even when speaking French).
wtf where the liberals thinking, there is no way that guy couldve won... My french accent is not half as bad as his, and if I was about to run for PM I would work on it seriously
haha thank you Stephane Dion XD you prove me that I'm not that bad in english. I like the way that journalists CAN prononce correctly his name. I'm sure they can even prononce my name and any french word correctly ^^
You Dionistas are defending the indefensible. Dion wanted to be PM of Canada, yet he couldn't understand (or answer) a simple question, poorly worded or otherwise. His assistant clearly understood, millions of Canadians understood, and I suspect Dion likely understood as well. Mr. Dion was a disasterous choice as leader of the LPC. He was unable to properly articulate a position on anything, let alone lead a large and diverse country like Canada. A political trainwreck, if you will.
If I were Canadian I probably wouldn't vote for him. But come on- haven't all of us had days when we were just totally out of it? Dion can't seem to catch a break. Linguistic barriers affect all of us. Just imagine a native speaker of English being interviewed in Quebec under the same circumstances
