the reason it wont read the dual layer dvd is that the dvd burner in the mac was from the time it would only read dvd-r and not dvd+r i have that issue with my powermac g4 quicksilver so all the copies of tiger i have wont read or install and i cant use my copy of leopard cause its an upgrade copy only and if i install a new hd i have to have tiger installed first or else the leopard upgrade dvd says tiger isnt installed and the installation wont continue

It was the SL dvd I found on the torrents...I got the real 7.3 or something GB image...put it on a usb boot it from the usb with the commands at hints.macworld.com and PRESTO!!!! Leopard Installation working....AVOID THE SINGLE LAYER DVD Thanks for the inspiration dude

@Corganfuzz Yea, i knew you could install from USB, in fact the new MacBook Air uses a USB drive for its recovery files…Apple is considering doing that with all its software so it may not be too long before OS X is distributed via USB thumb drive. It makes more since considering USB is faster than the DVD-ROM. I did not have a USB drive to test the install with or I would have done that too
