i think the biggest test of all is that any Morgan dollar coin that is magnetic is NOT REAL , whether the weight is the correct one or not...or if the coin is not marked as fake, if it is magnetic it is FAKE!!!, i have a question...if a coin is not marked as reproduction then would it be a counterfeited one and therefore against the law? how can anybody sell them on e-bay?

i just started collecting and recieved my first morgan dollar. It ways 27.4 grams and 422 grains just a bit on the high side. Are every dollar spot on in weight or will they be a few grain off? if one is worn will it be a bit lighter? i may need to invest in a better scale my dime range from 2.4 to 2.6 in weight. any input or links greatly appreciated.

@ai3n10 weigh them first. morgan dollar weighs 26.7 grams the fake one's usually weighs 23 grams or less. second measure their diameter, third do a ping test. my advice is that if you want a morgan dollar buy those with cartwheel effect. fake morgan's don't have any cartwheel effect.

@Petros7373 ok like my father told me when i first accuried it is that you can tell very easy a fake morgan from a real one (he had 250 with a fake one in the middle) thats how come he says he can tell...also i a lil less worried that its a morgan and more worried that the Mintmark was added
GREAT NEWS: turns out my 1889 cc coin is real and that because the con dealer i saw had 2...they said its easy to tell a real one from a fake one and right away the dealer said it was rea...and it probably the BIGGEST coin dealer in Denver

hey thanks for the video...i had a question....i have 1889 morgan dollar that im nervous isnt real..i did your test...it has no marking of copy that i can see, not magnetic at all...now the only thing is that my coin doesnt look 100% opposite of its reverse slide...its looks shifted very slightly...not real noticeable....from pictures and from what i have been told by my father 9who is a experienced coin collector) that its genuine...any comments or ideas maybe suggestions?

@ai3n10 You got it. Thanks for the comment. If I were you I would weigh it...if you have another Morgan or Peace Dollar you know is real, the scale will read the exact same weight as the 1889 you are concerned about.
If you don't have a scale, a very easy way to find out would be to bring it to a local coin store and ask what they would give you for it. They don't want to buy a fake, so they would use their "expert eye" and let you know if it's a fake. Don't let on that you think it's a fake!

@Petros7373 And whatever you do, if they tell you it's a reproduction but they will buy it from you anyway, DO NOT sell it! An honest dealer would have no need to buy a fake.
