come on I have seen us and european airlines taking off and landing in worse condition.......don't pretend like accidents never happen overthere.....this is so funny, and obvious. Many airports in Asia r among the top ten busiest airport in the world, I am positive they r super equipped technically and mentally to manage all traffics. I don't like it when people have their eyes closed for their mistakes, and mouth wide open to dramatize other people's stories.

congaleander2000, ok you made your point but the MD-11 is in my opinion crap, just ask any Boeing employee who worked with the MD-11 and they all say the same. Boeing did fix many problems with the MD-11 but as soon they fix one problem another came to life. In my opinion all MD-11´s out there should be grounded. There will be another accident soon with an MD-11. It´s an flying death trap and Mcdonnell Douglas did a shit poor job and rushed the MD-11 into production.

Also there are numerous recorded accidents in the orient were airlines took unnecessary risks landing or taking off in typhoon like conditions. airports in the U.S. close when that happens. There's the MD-11 caught on tape flipping over on landing, the wrong runway T/O during typhoon conditions in Taiwan, there's one floating around here on youtube of Aeroflot in Hong Kong taking off in sever conditions etc. I just have a HUGE respect for mother nature

Airports equipped with Doppler will know better when to close the airfield and when not to. And I believe most major airports in Asia have the right equipment. The type of incidents you've mentioned happen anywhere in the world. Madarin Airlines incident @ HKG was a pilot error, and MD-11's design also contributed to the incident. So was Fedex's recent mismap at NRT. The SQ incident at TPE was also a pilot error, and has very little to do with rough weather.

Every aircraft has operational limitations, and the pilots decide whether or not it is safe to operate under the given conditions. If that was a east-west thing, how would you explain the Continental mishap @ Buffalo? and numurous weather-related incidents all over the world? It is the same all over the world. Airlines may decide not to operate under 'close calls' but it's just not a east-west thing or who's giving more respect for mother nature, etc.

it seems like the norm and not the exception that Asian airlines do not care to avoid or delay for thunderstorms...foolish!

and it has nothing to do with where the airline is from. If the aircraft is equipped with the right equipment, the decision will be the same across the world.
