Here's a look at a classic I-177 tube tester used by the US Signal Corp in WW II. I'll try to get mine working and explore all the cool stuff about these great testers.

  • Looks like you've made a really good score on that tube tester, Bob. Let me express a little bit of concern though, as I have heard that super glue might crack the glass of the tube as it heats up, that it is not elastic and will not accommodate the expanding glass. I have also heard that epoxy glues are a little more flexible and may be more appropriate for this application.

  • @HardKnocks60 You're absolutely correct. I should have recommended Permatex RTV or RTV3145. They can take the heat, bonds well and are a little flexible.

  • What's that website that's all about the tester?

  • @batterymaker I show it in part 3 which is uploading right now.

  • That's considerably more complicated inside than my newly bought emissions tester.

I noticed that on one section of the tube you tested, it tested higher than 100%. My tester does this on a couple tubes I have. I assumed something was wrong, and was going to test all of the resistors' values. I've done the one simple calibration successfully, but those two tubes still test at over 100%. One almost pegs the meter. Is it normal for some tubes to test higher than 100%?

  • @SlackJones1 I think so. I calibrated that Triplett 3413B not too long ago.

  • Nice tester. I was wondering if you might post a short list or short video of the forums that you frequently use? I think that would be a big help to folks. I know if would help me. Thanks again for a great video. George, N0JRJ

  • I have a military radio that has that anti mildew stuff in it I got 20 years ago for 5 bucks at the flea market you can see it in " G.I.Joe HQ part 2" It is mounted
